Why Beautifully Blended?
People ask me about the name all the time. Why "Beautifully Blended"? Why not something simpler, punchier, easier to fit on a tag? The honest answer is that the name isn't just decoration. It's the whole point.
For most of my life, the words available to me felt like they were designed to divide. Mixed. Half. Part. Each one quietly asks you to split yourself into fractions — to hand over a percentage here, a percentage there, until there's barely a whole person left. I grew up biracial and adopted, and I spent a long time doing that math in my head, trying to add up to something that finally made sense to everyone else.
"Blended" was the word I wish I'd had growing up. It doesn't divide you. It combines you.
That's the thing about a blend. Nothing gets left out. Nothing gets ranked or subtracted. Everything you are folds into everything else and becomes something new and whole — and, I'd argue, something genuinely beautiful. The day that word finally clicked for me, I felt a knot I'd carried since adolescence start to loosen. I wasn't a fraction of anything. I was all of it, at once.
More than a name
So when Beautifully Blended started as an apparel and design company, the name came first and everything else grew around it. Yes, it's fun, fresh, fabulous — I love a great design as much as anyone. But underneath the shirts and the collections, it was always pointing at something bigger: belonging. The feeling every one of us is really after.
That's why Beautifully Blended is growing into more than a shop. It's becoming a community — a place for the biracial and multiracial folks still answering "what are you?", for the parents raising beautifully blended kids and wanting to get it right, and for everyone who loves someone living in that gorgeous in-between. Real stories. Real resources. A place to feel seen.
If you're just finding us
Whether you're here for a shirt, a book or for a sense of belonging — or, ideally, all of it— I'm so glad you came. Pull up a chair. There's room for all of you here. Every last beautifully blended part.
— Michaela
One thing to sit with
If you're raising a blended kid, try this: instead of asking them to choose, ask them what they love about each part of who they are. Identity grows from pride, and pride grows from being invited to claim the whole.
